The Nigerian Police have moved embattled senator, Dino Melaye, out of the National Hospital.
Oak TV saw a police van loaded with about 15 officers sneak out of the remises around 1:30pm Wednesday May 2.
The van moved towards the building housing Skylark Pharmacy, near the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC)
It was not however clear whether the vehicle that moved the lawmaker
drove towards the National Stadium end of the hospital.
Reliable sources at the hospital confirmed to our crew the senator was
moved out of the hospital, Wednesday.
“I saw him in handcuff, being led out of the hospital. He’s been taken
away by the police,” one of the sources who pleaded anonymity told Oak
TV.
Another source, who also pleaded not to be named said: “He is finally
gone. You can see everywhere is free now. The police have been here
for a week, and they’ve achieved their aim of taking him away.”
It had been rumoured the outspoken lawmaker would be whisked away in a
helicopter, through a helipad on the Trauma Centre at the hospital,
prompting our crew to position themselves outside the facility for
hours.
Oak TV surveyed all floors of the hospital, and there was no sign the
senator was still within the facility, as all policemen, except three
officers positioned at the gate of the hospital, had vanished.
Only few persons were at the Trauma Centre, a rare incident occasioned
by current health workers strike.
The senator had jumped off a police van in Abuja when he was being
taken to Lokoja on Wednesday, 25th April 2018.
He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the nation’s
capital where he was later re-arrested by the police and taken to
National Hospital for treatment.
Scores of police officers were soon moved to the hospital to keep
vigil on him, while sources within the hospital claimed he was on
handcuff.
Melaye who has running battle with his state governor, Yahaya Bello,
survived a recall process reportedly initiated against him by the
governor.
He has been very critical of the administration of President Muhammadu
Buhari. Both the lawmaker and the president won their elections on the
platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC)
